Dreambert and Bedsmith, two creatures of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar city, feeling lost and confused. As panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He suggests that they must have passed out while watching television the night before, but before he can explain further, the situation becomes even stranger. A creature named Starlow, of the Star Sprite species, arrives, insisting that she is a friend of theirs. She says that they had planned to go out together, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around the city, acting as if they do not recognize either the surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As she shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to reassure them. Dreambert and Bedsmith, however, remain disoriented and unable to make sense of their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day progresses, Starlow becomes increasingly worried, initially thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior persists, she begins to worry that something is seriously wrong with their memories. By the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty deepens and she wonders if there is something more to their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house where they first woke up, and Wonky, still pretending to be their father, provides them with a bed that feels unfamiliar. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they drift off to sleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories remains unanswered as they drift into an uneasy sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
